In late May 2026, the Swedish studio Stunlock Studios officially pushed out the 1.1 update for its vampire survival action RPG V Rising. This marks the largest free content update since the game left Early Access and launched its 1.0 full release in May 2024. In the patch notes, Stunlock positioned the 1.1 update as a “full expansion of the endgame experience,” explicitly targeting veteran vampire lords who have already completed the main storyline and are seeking fresh challenges.
The centerpiece of the 1.1 update is an entirely new region called the Gloomrot Marshes. Located in the northeastern corner of the current map, this wetland is shrouded in an ancient curse and perpetually blanketed by thick fog. The visual theme of the Gloomrot Marshes stands in stark contrast to all previous regions. Where earlier forests, mountains, and snowfields emphasized a sense of openness, the Gloomrot Marshes create an oppressive, claustrophobic atmosphere through dense dead trees, half-submerged ruins, and winding waterways. The enemy types within the region have also been designed from scratch, including Bog Lurkers that burst unexpectedly from the swamp, Swamp Witches capable of releasing toxic clouds, and Cursed Treants that require weapons with specific attributes to be effectively taken down.
Two new bosses arrive alongside the Gloomrot Marshes: the Swamp King and the Elder Bloodline Ancient. The fight against the Swamp King introduces a new mechanic — when the boss’s health drops to a certain threshold, it summons an ever-expanding zone of toxic mist. Players must locate and destroy the runestones sustaining the mist within a time limit, or the entire battle arena will be covered. This mechanic is a clear departure from the game’s previous boss encounters, which were more straightforward combat challenges, and places a heavier emphasis on spatial control and rhythm management. The Elder Bloodline Ancient, on the other hand, is a hidden boss that requires completing a chain of prerequisite quests to unlock. According to the developers, defeating this elder grants a special ability called Blessing of the Blood Moon, which permanently enhances the character’s nocturnal capabilities, including a bonus to nighttime movement speed and a slight increase in sunlight resistance. Stunlock specifically noted in the patch notes that the recommended Gear Level for the Gloomrot Marshes is 85 and above, and that players are advised to finish upgrading a full set of Darksilver equipment before venturing in.
On the weapon front, the 1.1 update introduces a brand-new weapon type: the Dual-Wield Repeating Crossbow. Unlike the game’s existing crossbows, the repeating crossbow sacrifices single-shot damage and range in exchange for an extremely high rate of fire and reload speed, making it ideal for close-range kiting playstyles. Its skill set includes Barrage (rapidly firing multiple bolts in a cone-shaped area) and Leap Back (firing a slowing bolt while leaping backward). Used in tandem, these two skills form a highly flexible hit-and-run loop. The blueprint for the repeating crossbow can drop randomly from defeating Swamp Witches, while the forging materials primarily come from a new ore vein in the Gloomrot Marshes called Shadow Iron.
Beyond new content, the 1.1 update also adjusts several existing systems. The castle-building system now includes a Swamp-themed architectural style, with a full set of visual components — exterior walls, floors, furniture, and more — all craftable using materials gathered from the marsh. The blood type system has also undergone a balance pass. The previously underutilized Mutant Blood Type has been reworked and now provides additional poison resistance and increased blood-drain efficiency, dramatically raising its value in areas like the Gloomrot Marshes where poison-based enemies are densely concentrated.
